Electronic Waste
Do you like to have the latest and greatest technical and electronic gadgets? Cell Phones, MP3 players, laptops, tablets, 3D TV, Blu-Rays, DVD, etc. are just some of the modern items with which we like to fill our homes. All of these lovely items that many collect in an effort to "keep up with the Jones'" are known as e-waste or electronic waste; waste that is composed of all of the electronic items and their components that lay in and around homes all over the country. Innocent enough, right? Sure, but did you know that e-waste is a form of Hazardous Waste? Yup, all of these wonderful items we simply cannot live without are composed of hazardous chemicals such as beryllium, lead, cadmium and many other delicious treats that are not very eco-friendly.
When these consumption luxuries are replaced (the frequency of which depends on the item) and not disposed of correctly, all the nasty goodies that help to make them so appealing are introduced into our environment in an unfriendly and unsafe manner.
Take a quick look around your home. How many of the above items do you have lurking around, posing as kind and gentle consumer items that make you feel complete? If you add up all of the DVDs, Blu-Ray discss, CDs, TVs, video cameras, docking stations, cameras, game systems, DVD/Blu-ray players, laptops, desk tops, monitors, printers, tablets, cell phones, MP3 players, routers, HDMI cables, chargers, perhaps even VHS tapes, etc., how many e-waste items do you own?
So as you sit and read this on your laptop, desktop, tablet, or phone, be aware that this lovely gadget is considered a "must have" Hazardous Waste item. Yikes!
